Getting to net zero or zero net energy

If the cheapest energy available is that which is conserved, reducing the energy used by buildings can really pay off. And while it's possible to design buildings that create as much power as they consume -- i.e. "zero net energy," the cost of doing so can be prohibitive -- and consumer behavoir can undermine even the most effective energy saving measures, said a researcher from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory Tuesday.
